Oh snap! She’s resurrecting the edumacation… edUMIcation!
I did a thread about this on Twitter but who knows the future of that hell site so I decided to put it here too. In light of Suiika’s customizable model and a lot of folks unable to afford it, I wanted to share some resources!
Vtubing is an expensive AF hobby but it doesn’t have to be. One of the best ways to start out is with a pre-made model. There a TON of pre-made models across all the sites that sell art (Etsy & Ko-Fi for example) but if you get a pre-made model without customization, you will have a bunch of identical twins! This is where customization comes in!
Types of Customization
There are two types of model customization when it comes to not having an artist start from scratch and they both can save you a substantial amount of money.
Customizable Pre-Made Model
This is a model that comes with a certain number of customizable features. The more customizable features it has means the more creative you can get and the more unique you can be!
*NOTE* These models often cannot be used for commercial use. Make sure to check the artist’s terms of service for more information. Generally commercial means, you won’t sell anything featuring the model such as merch or other things. If you ever want to build upon your character it's important to iterate on some style notes from your pre-made model so you are somewhat recognizable.
Customizable YCH Model
A customizable YCH mode other known as “your character here” is a base model that the artist adds your unique traits to. This can be a bit more pricey depending on what you are looking for. My first model was a chibi YCH model that cost me about $125. (The artist is no longer available for L2D commissions.) This is an excellent deal if you want to have a unique character you plan on building a brand around without the hefty cost of a model made from scratch. I’m only going to cover customizable pre-made models here in this post but if you look around Vgen and other art places you can find these services!
Cost of Vtubing
There are so many costs associated with vtubing! A custom live 2D model can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. A custom 3D model can end up costing just as much or less depending on the complexity of the 2D you’re looking for.
But, your model is not your only cost. There is emotes, promotional art, stream overlays/scenes, skins for your social, etc etc. It really starts to add up! Not to mention whatever you need for your set up on the tech side. So if you can save some money with a customizable model at the start to make sure you’re into it, you’ll be at a great starting point.

Other Resources
Here are some sites you can find models, accessories, assets, and more.
Gumroad - A great place to get all kinds of assets and models in both 2D and 3D. Prices are displayed in the local currency of the seller so you’ll have to use a conversion to find out the current price of some things.
BOOTH - Another great place to get all kinds of assets and models in both 2D and 3D. This is a Japanese marketplace so you will likely need a translator as well as a conversion for JPY to your local currency.
VGEN - Honestly, the best place to hire artists. They’ve done a lot to combat AI stuff and protect both artists and clients. You can hire folks for just about any part of vtubing from modes to assets to scripts to editing… a lot.
Etsy - Etsy has a lot of great assets and pre-made stuff and you can even commission folks from there. *Note* There are A LOT of AI assets on there so it’s good to do a lot of research on the shop you’re going to buy from/artist you’re going to hire.
Fiverr - This is the OG spot to hire people and still can be a decent place to hire folks from everything to models to assets. BUT *Important Note* There is A LOT of scammers and AI folks on here. It’s not only important to do your research about the seller but also look at their delivered work with the Fiverr watermark tied to reviews to make sure you’re getting what you are paying for. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen beautiful art in the thumbnail and then I look at the reviews and they look absolutely nothing like the advertisement.
