Intro! - Please read this first!
Here's everything you need to know about this Substack and meeeee! Please
Hello! I am Umi! Your local squid vtuber! If you’re here, you’ve maybe been to my Edumication streams or seen my ridiculous threads on Twitter. Those things can be hard to find once they are buried so, I wanted to put all the information in one place that is forever!
A little about me, you may know me from my streams but in my day job I am a social media, community, and influencer manager. I have worked with some of the biggest companies in entertainment and gaming and I’ve managed relationships with some of the biggest influencers out there. I’ve built and managed communities in the millions from scratch and I am behind so many brand social trends that are in common use today.
Prior to my day job, I was a flesh tuber and I gained over 25k subscribers in a year and averaged 250k views a video and garnered over 1 billion views within a year. Across all my social platforms I had over 300k followers before vanishing and becoming a corporate wage slave. Oh. And my cats are influencers too.
While I intend to remain anonymous, I can promise you that I know this stuff like the back of my hand. Why anonymous? I like the freedom that comes with it. I don’t have to worry about anything I do reflecting on the place I work at. Especially when I crack lewd jokes on stream.
I also wanted to make this because there is A LOT of misinformation out there and there are a lot of people promoting themselves as experts out there when they are really just saying shit to get clicks or to pull someone into their marketing funnel. I am not about that crap! I’m here to help and I am not trying to sell you anything.
You can find me on Twitch, Twitter, Tiktok, and everywhere else HERE!
There is a companion EdUmication center on Discord with more resources, exclusive content, and a forum for questions. Agree to the rules and get the creator role to gain access.
One warning… I am a goofball who swears like a sailor and writes in my own voice. This is exactly how you will hear me talk and isn’t some stuffy bullshit. We are not about that in this house!
I originally made this a google doc but I think this will be better off here on Substack because it will be easier to share out based on topic!
Introduction
I’m sure you’ve been here before…
“This is the only social media strategy you will ever need!” exclaims a trendy woman on TikTok right before linking you to her masterclass that costs well over $1,000 or before pitching her sketchy pyramid scheme.
So many people have come to me after being scammed by these “social media gurus'' out of their hard earned money and honestly? I’m tired of seeing people fall prey to these scams. I want to help people be the best versions of themselves and be kick ass creators without breaking the bank.
While the strategies in this series will point you on the right path, there is no one real fast track to success for an independent content creator. You may get lucky and go viral or have a large creator promote you but… if you do not have the skills to sustain an audience, it will be fleeting and it will not be long until you’re back to square one. There’s a lot of creators out there who had their 15 minutes of fame and vanished back into the Shadow Realm because they had no idea what to do with their fame once they got it. That won’t be you though, right? Because you’re going to build an awesome foundation through the steps in this series, right?
Is this Substack for you?
Just to get something out of the way early, I am not making this series for hobbyists. If you are just doing this as a hobby, you will still find some good tips in here but I am writing this for folks who want to either turn this into a part-time or full-time job as a content creator or even a professional social media or community manager.
I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t go into content creation with the goal of being a hobbyist or going pro, I am just saying that the latter is who this information is tailored to.
Going full-time as a content creator is incredibly hard and requires a lot of work and multiple revenue streams. I am not going to be teaching you about how to earn money in this series but I will be teaching you how to kill it with social media, community development, marketing, and branding which are the foundation you should build before being able to earn a substantial amount of money.
